Shaka Smart instills resolve in Rams

Players speak to press, cheer on Norfolk St. Friday

The media received access to VCU’s locker rooms today, with the match-up against the fourth-seeded Hoosiers of Indiana looming tomorrow. The mood was quite lively though as most of the players and coaches watched the Missouri Tigers vs. Norfolk State Spartans game that was on the television in the room. No stranger to wrecking brackets themselves, the Rams seemed to be wholeheartedly rooting for the upset. Junior guard Darius Theus hails from the Norfolk area and outspoken freshman guard Briante Weber boisterously supported many of the Norfolk State players with whom he played AAU basketball. Members of the media were ready to pounce on the fresh comparison between the potential Cinderalla of Norfolk State this year and the magical run of VCU just one year ago. The Spartans of Norfolk State will join VCU in representing the state of Virginia in the round of 32.

NCAA Tournament: Second Round

Rams face Wichita St at 7:15 ET tonight

PORTLAND, Ore – The men’s basketball team will take the floor Thursday as a far different squad than last year’s Final Four finishers. The Rams enter as underdogs once more as Wichita State (26-5, 18-2 MVC) is a six-point favorite against VCU (28-6, 15-3 CAA). Across the country 2,800 miles away from Richmond a new journey could begin, to see if the slipper still fits.
