Analysis: Rams win tenth straight


 
VCU (21-5, 12-2) takes care of Towson Wednesday 66-43 at the Siegel Center. Sr. Bradford Burgess finishes with 22 points, two away from his season high, and soph. D.J. Haley has his first career double-double. The Rams’ defense forces 28 turnovers and swats 9 shots. VCU goes on the road the next few games, playing at Old Dominion Saturday and at George Mason Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball highlights

The women’s basketball team (12-8, 5-4 CAA) split a pair of games at home this past week. The Rams fell to Drexel 47-41 as Sr. Courtney Hurt became VCU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,755 career points Thursday, breaking a 22-year-old record. VCU topped Georgia State 75-70 Sunday behind a 28-point 20-rebound effort from Hurt. The Rams are sixth in the CAA standings and play ninth place Towson Thursday.

With increased attendance numbers, the lines preceding home men’s basketball games has lengthened and many students are turned away at the gates of the Siegel Center.

VCU wins fifth straight, tops Pride

Rams beat Hofstra for second time this season

(Jan. 23): Hofstra 49 VCU 61


 
Burgess leads the way with 14 points as four Rams score in double figures, helping VCU (16-5, 7-2 CAA) to shoot 43% on the night. The Rams will go on the road for three games before returning to the Siegel Center Feb. 4 to face Northeastern for their Homecoming game.

Highlights: Men’s Basketball vs. ODU

Seeking revenge for two straight losses in Richmond at the hands of the Monarchs, VCU builds a seven-point halftime lead and benefits from 16 points from Jr. Troy Daniels en route to a 13-point win, 61-48. The Rams force 25 turnovers and Jr. Darius Theus adds 15 points as VCU improves to 6-2 in the CAA.

Rams defeat the Dukes

VCU bounces back from two straight conferences losses to win by 20 points. Freshman Treveon Graham ties a career high in points with 18. The Rams shoot 36% but hold JMU to 33%. VCU next plays at Delaware at 4 p.m. Saturday. The game can be seen on the Comcast Sports Network.
