The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Rams 64-46 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on Saturday. Illinois suffocated the Rams on defense, forcing them into a 30% shooting percentage on the night, including an abysmal 11% from beyond the arc.

The Rams shot 2-of-18 from 3, including a 1-of-7 performance from leading scorer JeQuan Lewis. The Rams were led by Mo Alie-Cox, who had 10 points.

Illinois was led by Sophomore forward Leron Black, who finished as the game’s leading scorer with 18 points. He also finished with 8 rebounds and shot just over 46% from the field. Illinois Senior guard Malcolm Hill also finished with 16 points and 5 assists.

“We just got hammered,” coach Will Wade said. “We weren’t ready to play. We got beat in every hustle category. It’s on me. I didn’t have us prepared to play. It’s embarrassing as I’ve ever been in four years coaching a team.”

The Rams fall to 6-2 and take on Georgia Tech next Wednesday at home. Illinois improves to 6-3 and play IUPUI in their next game at home, on Tuesday.
