Rams Review Recap: A-10 Finals

St. Joes defeated VCU 87-74 in the A-10 conference championship game Sunday afternoon. The Hawks were paced by A-10 Player of the Year DeAndre’ Bembry, who had a game-high 30 points, and Isaiah Miles, who had 26 points and 12 rebounds.

St. Joes shot a scorching 64.8% from the field for the game and at times made VCU’s defense look lost. VCU was led by guards Korey Billbury and JeQuan Lewis, who each had 19 points for the Rams. Will Wade’s squad shot 41.2% from the field, but attempted an alarming 29 three pointers. They only made 7 of them.

With the win, the Hawks (4) won their second A-10 tournament in the last three years and also guaranteed a spot in the field of 68 for the NCAA tournament. The Rams (2) are likely to get an at-large bid as well. If the Rams get a spot in the tournament, it will be a school-record 6th straight appearance for VCU.

The Hawks led by as many as 20, but a Jordan Burgess 3-pointer made it 75-68 with 4:15 left to play. That was the closest the Rams would get for the remainder of the game.
